Orion180 boosts 2025 hurricane coverage with record reinsurance deal
Capacity increase supports coverage for high-risk areas.
Orion180 has completed a US$845 million reinsurance placement to support its excess-of-loss and net quota share agreements for the 2025 hurricane season.
The program covers both Orion180 Insurance Company and Orion180 Select Insurance Company and reflects a 31% increase over the 2024 reinsurance tower.
The reinsurance structure includes multiple event coverage and is backed by a panel of 35 global reinsurers. The placement comes ahead of a hurricane season forecasted by many industry experts to be above average, with between 13 and 19 named storms expected.
The company’s reinsurance capacity has grown steadily year over year. In 2024, Orion180 increased its reinsurance placement by 47% compared to the prior year. The 2025 program marks a continuation of that growth strategy, raising the total tower by an additional 31%.
The expanded reinsurance capacity supports Orion180’s national growth across its personal lines offerings, including FLEX Home Insurance and Residential Private Flood Insurance.
FLEX Home Insurance, one of the carrier’s core products, initially launched in Texas and has since expanded to Florida. It is particularly aimed at areas with elevated exposure to weather-related perils such as wind, hail, and hurricane damage.
The company has stated plans to make the FLEX product available in additional states over the next year.
Ken Gregg (pictured), founder and CEO of Orion180, said the additional capacity enables the company to provide coverage to homeowners in high-risk markets.
“Independent agents and customers can rest easy, knowing that Orion180 can fulfill its promise of offering protection in higher risk areas of the United States when few others will,” Gregg said.
As Orion180 continues to grow, it has also expanded its homeowners insurance availability beyond coastal states. States like Ohio and Arizona have recently been added to the company’s footprint.
Meanwhile, the company’s Residential Private Flood Insurance product is offered in 12 states: Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Orion180 plans to expand into additional states in 2025.
